MINISTRIES, PARISH GROUPS AND TEAMS
Our many ministries help our Parish welcome new members and assist with the integration of various works to form one body as the Parish of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop Upper Blue Mountains. To make contact with one of our ministries or devotional groups, please contact the Parish Office.
ACOLYTE & ALTAR SERVERS
Following appropriate training, acolytes are appointed in a service called ‘institution’, so that they may minister to the priest. Their proper ministry is to look after the service of the altar and to assist the priest in liturgical services especially the Mass.
Sacristans prepare items used during our liturgical celebration. Items include, but are not limited to, hosts, wine, vessels, linens and vestments, etc. Sacristans set up and prepare Mass daily and on Sundays.
CHURCH & HALL CLEANERS
Once a week volunteers according to a roster, clean each of our three churches and two halls. If you would like to be involved in the cleaning of our Churches please contact Parish Office.
Our readers bring the Word of God to us at daily and Sunday Masses by reading the assigned Scripture passage from the Old and New Testaments. If you would like to become a reader at daily or Sunday Mass please contact Parish Office.
DEVOTIONAL LIFE TEAM
We have many Devotions available in the parish bringing us closer to our Lord. The Devotional Life Team meets regulary to discuss and implement ways to deepen the devotional life of the parish.
EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION
Extraordinary Ministers of Communion take Holy Communion to the homes of those who are housbound/sick and to the local nursing homes (Bodington, Moven Gardens, Martyn Claver, The Ritz ect.) and hospital. Training is necessary.
PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL
The Parish Pastoral Team works closely with Fr Ted in thinking of ways to help the Parish grow spiritually and as a community, planning to reach out and welcome those new to the Parish. Anyone that wishes to be on this team, Fr Ted warmly invites that person to see him. What is asked is a generous commitment and a very good team spirit.
PARISH FINANCE COMMITTEE
This is a dedicated group of parishioners, appointed by invitation of the Parish Priest, to assist in the management of the financial roles and responsibilities of the Parish. They advise the Parish Priest and parish staff on matters such as budgeting, expenditure, collections and OH&S.
We have made some attempts at establishing a Youth Group for the youth in the Blue Mountains but so far we have not been successful.
CATECHIST – SPECIAL RELIGIOUS EDUCATORS (SREs)
The Special Religious Educators (SREs) or Catechists are volunteers who take the Good News to Catholic children in the State Primary Schools located in our Parish. No special qualifications are needed. Support and backup are always available and excellent resources for children and teachers are given.
The parish has been thinking of introducing Alpha is a practical tool inspiring Catholic renewal by answering the call to the New Evangelisation. We have sent the team below for a training day but as yet the team, so caught up in other things in the parish, has not found the time to follow up on Alpha. It may come sometime in the future.
PARISH CARE & SUPPORT GROUP
The parish has been thinking of establishing group of caring parishioners who are prepared to attend to emergency requests from the Parish Office to people in a crisis situation. This may be to sudden bereavements, family crisis or even emergency transport.
DIVINE MERCY DEVOTION
Divine Mercy Devotions held on the 1st Sunday of the month at St Bonaventure's Church, Leura , and the Divine Mercy Prayer and Praise each Friday 5.15pm at St Bonaventure's Church Leura.
Experienced musicians are welcome to join a roster to assist in enhancing the presentation of the Liturgy at weekend Masses, in particular, by use of the organ or piano. Other musical instruments, woodwind, brass, percussion, strings or guitar are also welcomed.
The parish Catechumenate Team instructs and prepares adults wishing to become Catholics. they instruct the catechumen in Catholic Faith and Teachings.
The Sacramental Team manages the communication and implementation of people around the parish programs for the sacraments of Reconciliation, Communion and Confirmation, in consultation with the Parish Priest.
ADVENT & LENTEN STUDY GROUPS
Study groups run through Lent and Advent for dates and times please contact the Parish Office. For instance, for Lent of 2017, there were seven Lenten Groups.
Welcomers welcome worshippers, assist with information about the building, pass out bulletins and Mass Cards and introduce regular parishioners to others, particularly visitors or new parishioners.
Clean and care for the altar space including maintaining altar candles, linens, vestments, etc. This visual ministry brings people together to change our worship space each liturgical season through the use of flowers, plants and fabrics.
BUILDINGS & MAINTENANCE TEAM
A team dedicated to looking after the maintenance and repairs on our three churches and two halls. New members always welcome.
